The government also allows abortion in cases of physical or mental illness, rape or incest, and poor socioeconomic status.

Imprisonment for breaching the Law:

Self-induced abortions can be punished with up to six months in prison or fined up to fifty dinars. Furthermore, persons who perform abortions on women without proper medical training can face a prison sentence of up to 10 years. 1977 Law No. 24 forbade midwives from performing abortions due to not holding up a medical license.
